Three Services,
One Area of Practice
Every service we offer concerns the inheritance of an estate — its documentation, its lawful distribution, or the resolution of disputes arising from it. Here you will find a detailed account of each.
Our Approach
How We Work With Families
Each engagement begins with a careful listening stage. We do not arrive at an initial meeting with a predetermined structure — we listen first, then assess what the matter actually requires. This approach means that families are not steered toward a service that does not fit their situation.
Following the initial assessment, we provide a written note of our understanding of the matter, the service we propose, the fee, and the likely timeline. This note forms the basis of the engagement letter, which both parties sign before substantive work commences.
Throughout the engagement, we provide written updates at each meaningful stage and remain available by telephone and email for questions that arise between those stages. At the close of an engagement, we provide a written summary of the advice given and, where relevant, any steps that remain outstanding.
Initial Consultation
We listen to the family's account of the matter, ask clarifying questions, and assess which of our services, if any, is appropriate.
Written Engagement Letter
We set out the scope of work, the fee, and the timeline in writing. The engagement letter is signed by both parties before work begins.
Advisory Work & Outcome
We conduct the advisory or representation work, provide written updates throughout, and deliver a closing summary of the advice and outcomes.
Service One
Will Validity & Construction Counsel
Advisory work on the validity, interpretation, and construction of existing wills — particularly relevant where ambiguous wording, multiple wills, or questions of testamentary capacity have arisen. We review available documentation, provide a written legal opinion, and support the client through any clarifying applications or proceedings that may be appropriate.
This service is typically engaged where a family member has questions about whether a will they hold is legally effective, or where the wording of a testamentary provision is unclear and the beneficiaries disagree about its meaning.
- Review of the will and any codicils
- Assessment of capacity and execution requirements
- Written opinion on legal validity
- Advice on clarifying applications if required
Service Two
Faraid Distribution Advisory
Considered advisory work on Islamic inheritance under the principles of faraid — including review of the deceased's estate, calculation of beneficiary shares under the applicable jurisprudence, and coordination with the Syariah authorities where relevant. We take care to explain the principles in accessible language and support families through the practical steps of distribution.
Faraid applies to the estates of Muslim individuals in Malaysia. The rules prescribe specific fractional shares to categories of heirs and operate through the Syariah court system. Our faraid advisory work covers calculation, coordination, and — where needed — representation before the relevant Syariah authority.
- Estate review and asset identification
- Faraid share calculation with written workings
- Identification of heirs and their entitlements
- Coordination with Johor Syariah Court
Service Three
Contested Probate Representation
Representation in contested probate matters — where the validity of a will is challenged, the suitability of an executor is questioned, or beneficiaries disagree on the interpretation of testamentary provisions. We handle preparation of submissions, attendance at hearings, and ongoing client communication, with care for the emotional weight of the proceedings.
Before advising a family to commence contested proceedings, we provide a frank assessment of the likely pathway — its duration, costs, and realistic prospects. Contested probate is a significant undertaking, and families should enter it with eyes open.
- Pre-litigation assessment and pathway advice
- Preparation of originating summons and submissions
- Attendance at all relevant hearings
- Ongoing communication throughout proceedings
